Position Overview

Onward Education is partnering with a school district in Lake County, Maryland to hire a dedicated Special Education Resource Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Special Education Resource Teacher will provide targeted, specialized instruction to students who require additional academic and behavioral support while participating in the general education setting. The role primarily involves small-group or individualized instruction in areas such as reading, math, social skills, and other identified areas of need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction to students based on their individual learning needs.
  • Deliver small-group and individualized instruction in a resource setting.
  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans aligned with curriculum goals.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and materials to meet diverse student needs.
  • Create a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments.
  • Maintain accurate student records, documentation, and progress reports.
  • Establish clear instructional objectives and monitor progress toward academic goals.
  • Support students' academic, behavioral, and social development.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff regarding student progress.
  • Collaborate with other educators and staff to develop instructional goals, objectives, and strategies.
  • Follow school policies, procedures, and classroom expectations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, committees, and other school activities as required.
  • Assist with the selection and use of appropriate instructional materials and resources.
  • Maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland teaching license.
  • Additional certification requirements may apply based on Maryland State Department of Education and local Board of Education requirements.
  • Knowledge of current instructional and curricular methods.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school-based team.
  • Professional attitude and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the classroom environment, including standing, bending, stooping, and moving classroom materials when necessary.
  • Crisis intervention responsibilities may include participation in physical restraint when required.
